When I started my IGNOU MBA final project project I thought it would be easy. Pick a topic, do some research, write it out and then submit. Easy. Being a supervisor is tricky. Some are clear with their instructions but some are vague or difficult to understand. I waited for two weeks for one reply, and it was delayed my progress.

The most important thing is to be proactive. Prepare specific questions, be polite and follow-up with a notepad to record feedback. Supervisors can be helpful, but you need to be accountable for the project you are working on.

Formatting and References Matter

I initially didn't care about formatting. Fonts, spacing, certificates. I thought that I could rectify them later. Big mistake. It nearly delayed submission.

References are equally vital. One missing citation can raise questions. Use software to manage reference sources and work on it while writing chapters, instead of waiting for the end. Proper formatting makes your paper simpler to comprehend and makes it appear more professional.

Stress Is Real

Stress is unavoidable. Deadlines, corrections and insufficient information can cause anxiety. One night I was staring at the screen feeling like I'd never complete.

Short breaks help. Making friends with your partner, going for a hike, or listening to music. Be grateful for small achievements. In the process of finishing a literature study or the data collection process are significant milestones. They keep motivation high.

Ethical Confusion

A lot of students fret about what type of help is permitted. You are able to ask for help but not have someone compose your work. Ethical guidance may include comments on the structure, methodology, and clarity. The original work is yours to keep.

Asking for help does not suggest cheating. It is prudent to use available resources. Supervisors expect students to seek assistance if they're stuck.

Reviewing Your Work

I focused on the chapters separately initially. Then, I realized the book as a whole was full of repetitions or terms that were not consistent and there were no hyperlinks. Reading the project fully reveals areas of confusion. Imagine yourself as an examiner. You'll see mistakes you would have missed.

Procrastination Destroys Quality

It is a huge issue. I believed that I could complete data analysis and writing in just a couple of hours. The plan never came to fruition. Every delay lowered quality.

Start early. The mere act of writing a paragraph every day adds up. The task becomes feasible instead of overwhelming.

What I Learned

The MBA project isn't hard because of complexity. The reason it is difficult is because students do not have the proper planning, clarity, and guidance. Making mistakes is a normal part of life. The important thing is to understand and progress.

The ability to organize is beneficial, but flexibility is essential. Things rarely go according to plan. Certain data may not be available as well as supervisors might delay the process while obstacles will pop up. The difference lies in how you address these issues. Break tasks into pieces to focus on one task at a given time, and have the right expectations.
